The management of cables in Industry 5.0 and Robotics

The fascinating world of automated processes in industrial production has been growing for decades now, creating increasingly sophisticated solutions that, supported by incentives that reward innovation and system integrations, include remote connections, data, and advanced programming between the control cabinet and the machine.

Switches, servers, patch cables, and pre-wired connections made ad hoc -and not- represent the indispensable active connections that must be made regardless of the type of machinery.

Frames or divisible cable glands are chosen to pass through walls in the case of cables with connectors, from simple single patch cables to more advanced cabling such as M23 connected power or signal cables for Motors, Drives, Sensing, Robotics and Power Distribution systems.

For the use of pre-terminated cables on machines and equipment, DetasUltra provides a series of DES splittable frames that provide a very high degree of protection, up to IP66/UL Type 4X using standard power connector openings of 24, 16, 10-pin etc. and also round solutions for metric openings.

Using  SPC, SPP, SPL, SPG openable and smart  grommets, modular solutions can be chosen for cables with diameters from 2 to 65mm.

As an alternative to the classic industrial cable glands, it offers a wide range of divisible cable glands from the DESCLICK series and the OSF series that guarantee an IP54 rating; For those who need higher IP protection, they can useDESPRED series divisible cable glands that guarantee  IP66 rating.

In addition to Group 1, which is dedicated to pre-terminated cables, Group 2 offers a wide range of cable entry plates for cable without connectors: the DES PM series, DES PDM series with internal reinforcing frames, and DES PDP and PDPS to route single cables with diameters from 2.3 up to 63mm.

Applications on industrial robots and robot islands require reliable and also aesthetically satisfactory cable entry systems, especially Handling Robots where cables are of obvious importance given the high number of operations and movements.

Reliable clamping of terminals, quick equipment modifications are key factors in the decision. The DetasUltra DES series is also used in ATEX environments where painting robots are present.

This is possible because of the high quality and design of the product aimed at meeting the most stringent tests in the areas of water and dust tightness and tear resistance. By carefully following the installation instructions, the DES series can be used in areas classified as 2 and 22 by the 2014/34/EU directive also known as the ATEX directive.
